Best Places to Live in Oregon

Bend, Oregon sits on the banks of the Deschutes River, and is nearby Mt. Bachelor, where residents can ski or snowboard in the winter months. In 2000, CNN Money ranked Bend, Oregon as one of the top five places to retire. Bend has a great climate, but yes you can expect to see snow in the winter. Because Bend sits in the high desert, it has nearly 300 days of sunshine per year. Bend has a lot to offer to both the young and old.

The State of Oregon's economy grew faster than all but one state in 2011. According to OregonLive.com, gains in manufacturing helped give Oregon the boost in economic growth that year.

Safest Cities

In January, 2013, CQ Press reported that Beaverton is the safeset city in Oregon, while ranking 55th in the nation overall for safe cities.

Dangerous Cities

Overall, Oregon is a relatively safe state to live, ranking 40th in the nation for violent crime and 23rd for property crime, according to Oregon.gov in a June, 2010 report. It also said that since the 1990s, both violent crime and property crime has been on the decrease.

Best City for Recreation in Oregon

It's hard to name just one city, when it comes to recreation in Oregon. In Astoria, and the areas stretching down the coastline you'll get everything from salmon fishing to surfing to just driving 101 and enjoying the scenic towns along the way. Then there's Mt. Hood, due east, offering late season skiing and snowboarding, even in June.

Bend, Oregon, mentioned above, has an assortment of recreation in both the summer and winter months.

Coos Bay, to the west on the coast, offers both coastal recreation as well as 4x4, atv, and dirt bikes in the sand dunes.

Ashland, near the California border, picks up California's warmer weather and climate, making this a great place for year round recreation, considering that skiing isn't a far drive away.
